David J. Blair is a licensed attorney specializing in criminal defense and tax litigation.
David, a Colorado native, obtained Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder in Economics and Political Science. He received his Juris Doctor and Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Denver in 2008. While a student at DU, David was recognized for his scholastic achievement in criminal defense.
He started his legal career in 2009 as a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado’s 18th Judicial District. As a DA, he prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases, including DUIs, distribution and possession of drugs, sex assaults, and crimes of violence. Serving as a prosecutor, he obtained the trial experience necessary to become an aggressive and tenacious litigator. In only two years with the District Attorney’s Office, he was promoted to the position of Lead Trial Deputy of Arapahoe County Court.
David left the DA’s office in 2011 to accept a position at one of Colorado’s premiere tax litigation law firms. While an associate with the firm, he was often the lead representative on sensitive IRS audits of individual and business taxpayers. He worked tirelessly for his clients to minimize tax liabilities and the imposition of civil tax penalties. Due to his unique background in the criminal justice system, he was also successful in avoiding the criminal prosecution of numerous clients. David also appeared in United States Tax Court and before IRS Appeals Officers. Drawing on his knowledge and courtroom experience, he is unafraid to take his clients’ cases all the way to achieve the best possible result.
In 2012, David accepted a position at one of Colorado’s most well-respected criminal defense firms. During his five years with the firm, he defended clients accused of the most serious misdemeanor and felony crimes. While a member of this aggressive litigation team, he polished his skills in the courtroom and added to his already extensive experience as a trial attorney. David’s relentless approach to litigation and negotiations has benefitted his clients in achieving numerous dismissals and favorable settlements. David has appeared on cases in jurisdictions throughout Colorado and in several other states. He is battle-tested having tried over fifty cases to verdict. Without hesitation and in the face of unfavorable and sometimes insurmountable odds, he will fight to defend his clients.
His motivation to fight for the underdog is a product of his upbringing when his mother and father instilled in him the importance of standing up for his beliefs. Those principles, together with his competitive nature and love for the chess match that plays out in the courtroom, are what continue to drive him to fight for his clients.
